Pacing

One of the things I noticed about this trip early on is the pace of folks in this part of the country. Everything seems to have slowed down at least a gear, if not two. We were geting lunch and it probably took our waitress 5 minutes to find us and ask us if we wanted anything to drink. It happened at the restaurant inside the hotel as well. One thing that made in nice was the ability to have lots of conversation wthout being interrupted.

Sometimes it seems life is always rushing us around, moving us from thing to thing and not giving us much time for reflection. We don't seem to get opportunities to ponder as much anymore as it seems we are constantly barraged with things screaming to be paid attention to. Cell phones, TVs, radios, advertisements, loudspeaker announcements, mp3 players...even friends and family reaching out. Maybe that's one of the reasons for the increasingly popular meditation and yoga. We have industries popping up because of an increasing need for the time to think, or not.
