While in Toronto I spent a lot of time working. However, one of my best good friends sat next to a band promoter on the plane and scored tickets to a concert by Kevin Costner. Yes, Kevin has a band and it IS the Kevin you're thinking it is. The venue was small. It probably held about 400 people, about 175 people were there. Remember, this was a Tuesday night performance. The crowd was very docile and the drinks were borderline prohibitively expensive.
Before his entrance there was a lone soloist on stage keeping the crowd distracted. After his exit, the room went dark and the crowd watched clips of Kevin's movies over the last 20 some odd years. The room went dark again and a spotlight lit up the back of the room, and he walked through the crowd to the stage. I managed to stop him and shake his hand. It wasn't like it was a momentous occasion. It wasn't a moving experience. He's regular dude...every day he gets up and puts on his pants the same way I do, one leg at a time.
There are 2 acoustic guitars, 2 electric guitars, a bass guitar, a fiddle/violin & a drummer. His band put on a decent show. It can't be for the money. Our tickets were free. They weren't selling any t-shirts or CDs. It kind of made me wonder why he was doing it. I'm sure he's long since made up for the $200M he spent producing Waterwold...which barely crossed the $100M in revenue. Maybe he's just doing it for a hobby between movies and his other things he's involved in.
